A Morning at Buckhorn Lake

Buckhorn Lake is a Kentucky State Park that sits just south of Buckhorn in Southeastern Kentucky. The lake, a landmark of the middle split of the Kentucky River, sits at the bottom of a hill from which you can see the entire resort from the top. As a child my parents would take me and my four siblings to this park as a Thanksgiving getaway and each day the five us would spend the morning playing near the hill. I was inspired to write A Morning at Buckhorn Lake after watching videos of these adventures with my mother on Thanksgiving in 2013 and reminiscing about those trips.

It was my intention to capture the natural attributes of lakeside scenery and blend them with the musical essence of Appalachia: bluegrass music. Since this style originated from Celtic mountain songs, there is a slight Celtic flavor that can be heard throughout the course of the composition. The addition of the Banjo was chosen because it is the staple instrument of Appalachia.
